Why this works
School leaders want to see results, range and a caring approach to pupils.
Open with your subjects and key stages
Say what you teach and to which age groups in your summary. A head of department can then see straight away whether you fit the vacancy.
Back up progress with figures
If you have data, such as results, progress or attendance, show the change and the timescale. If you do not have a figure, describe a specific initiative and what pupils gained from it.
Show your wider contribution
Form tutoring, clubs, trips and leading a subject area all matter. List them as bullets under the role, not in a separate section, so they read as part of your work.
Match the school
Many schools ask for a supporting statement. Use this page for facts and keep the personal reasons for wanting the job for that statement.
