Download formats

You can save your CV in several formats. Which ones you can use depends on your plan.

Formats

Format Best for Plan
Plain text (ATS) Application forms and applicant tracking systems Free
PDF Emailing or uploading a polished CV Premium
Word (.docx) Editing in Word or sending to a recruiter who asks for it Premium
Backup file (JSON) Moving your data to another app Premium
Picture (PNG) Sharing a picture of your CV Premium

The free plan includes the plain-text download only. PDF, Word, PNG and backup file downloads are part of Premium. See Plans and prices.

Where to download

When your CV is ready, press Finish at the top of the editor. The page that opens offers three choices:

  • Download as PDF: best for emailing and uploading to job sites.
  • Send a link: a web page of your CV. It is free on every plan.
  • Download for Word: to edit on your computer.

On the free plan, Download as PDF and Download for Word carry a Premium label and the price. When you press one, we offer Premium right there, and the download starts as soon as it is on. Other formats, below the three choices, opens the full list, where plain text is free.

About the PDF

PDFs are tagged for accessibility and carry an outline, your title and author details and clickable links, and they look the same on every computer. If your CV runs slightly over a page, use the Fit to one page button, or control page breaks yourself.

File names

Downloads are named after you and the document, for example Alex-Morgan-CV.pdf, so they are easy to recognise in a recruiter's folder.

Paper size

CVs use A4 or US Letter depending on your country, and you can change it for each CV.

Tip: If a job advert names a file format, send that one.

Before your first download

You need a confirmed email address before your first download.

On the free plan, the preview carries a watermark and cannot be printed from the browser. Upgrading removes that, and the contact link below reaches us if a download does not work.
